This is a FIRST EDITION (No other printings noted on the copyright page)The U.S.S. Alabama was launched on February 16, 1942 and was Commissioned on August 16, 1942 and joined the fleet in early 1943.
In the course of the naval operations, the Alabama steamed more than 175,000 miles, ranging through 92 degrees Latitude and 250 degrees of Longitude. Crossed the Arctic Circle 6 times, the 180th Meridian 6 times, and the Equator no less than 24 times.
Combat history of participation in the Central and Western Pacific Campaigns with a perfect record as heavy support in that no aircraft carrier has suffered damage from enemy action while screened and supported by the ALABAMA.
